Hotel Sigiriya has added yet another “feather in its environment and sustainability cap” by being highly recommended in the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards 2008, in the large category of hotels, as announced at the World Travel Market in London last week.
The Responsible Tourism Awards are one of the most competitive and prestigious awards of their kind in the world, and are a collaboration between online travel directory responsibletravel.com, sponsor Virgin Holidays and UK media partners The Daily Telegraph, Geographical Magazine and BBC World News. Hotel Sigiriya won the Green Award in the category of Value Hotels and the best of country award for 2008 from the International Restaurant and Hotel Awards (IRHA) USA earlier this year. They have also been nominated for the world prize 2008 and are keeping their fingers crossed. To the credit of Hotel Sigiriya, they embarked on this cause many years ago, long before Eco Tourism and Sustainability was in the limelight or became trendy.
