Luxury Camping in the Knuckles.

The Red Dot sales persuaded the Directors to take two days off for some serious “research”. The attraction was a new luxury camping option in the Knuckes, a beautiful range of mountains to the north-east of Kandy. The campsites in the Knuckles are managed by Leopard Safaris, one of the premier wildlife operators in the… Read More »

Hikkaduwa Beach Festival.

Colombo emptied out last weekend with the young and the not so young… all heading out to the Hikka Beach festival.  Curious about all the hype, I myself ventured off on Friday evening with a whole bunch that were convinced this was the best thing to have happened to Hikkaduwa.  Flags fluttering, music blasting, thousands… Read More »

Sinharaja Rainforest, A Naturalist’s paradise

Having left Colombo at 4am on a Sunday morning, three friends and I left for Sinharaja Rainforest. Anyone who has been there would know that one never gets sick of exploring this last remaining rainforest in Sri Lanka. Taking three others who were going there for the first time made the trip even more exciting.

Pre-holiday reading – New website with leading Sri Lanka authors.

A Sri Lankan company called Z–World has started a website to sell books by Sri Lankan authors, on the internet. Soft copies of the books are available for download on this site and to my knowledge this is the first such opportunity offered to readers to buy books from Sri Lankan authors on the internet.… Read More »

The Joy Of Spontaneous Travel.

As the only member of the Red Dot team not allowed the joy of largely permanent living in Sri Lanka, the tension has been building. It’s been several months since I managed my last trip. So here I am, travelling vicariously, reading a Guardian travel section about the Art of Spontaneous Travel. It’s a very… Read More »

Bike Rides near Galle.

I went on a fantastic bike ride last week – organised by Idle Tours in conjunction with Kahanda Kanda, the boutique hotel overlooking Koggala Lake near Galle.  We met at KK at noon and had a swim in the beautiful infinity pool before sitting down for a sumptuous three course lunch and coffee.  After 3pm… Read More »

River Café chefs in Galle.

Two chefs from the famous River Café in London, visiting Sri Lanka on a 5 week surfing tour, took time out from the beach to cook a stunning 6 course dinner for 30 at The Dutch House in Galle. A starter of Inzimino, a dish involving chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, white wine and spinach, was followed… Read More »

New Archeological Museum for Sigiriya

Some good news for those of us worried about the preservation of our heritage. The Central Cultural Fund of Sri Lanka has initiated the establishment of an Archeological Museum, a long overdue facility for the magnificent attraction of Sigiriya Rock Fortress. This new museum would enhance the experience to Sigiriya and would allow the visitors… Read More »

Hot Air Ballooning.

Waking at 5:00am the day after New Year’s wouldn’t usually be my cup of tea. Having never been in a hot air balloon, however, I jumped at the chance. 11 of us made the effort, along with Justin, the pilot. A 15km drive inland from Galle delivered us to the take off site and the… Read More »
